Megan Rogers in conversation with Kylie Ladd

by Tessa Moriarty

The first Western Port Writers Literary Festival pre-event kicked off on Thursday evening April 18th, at the Somers General Store with Megan Rogers in conversation with Kylie Ladd.

I had only just begun reading Megan’s Rogers debut best-selling novel ‘The Heart Is A Star,’ but needless to say, I was hooked from the opening line – ‘Like a splinter in my finger I always thought if I left my mother alone, she would work herself out.’ It pulls you in, doesn’t it? And that is what Megan did through the entertaining and engaging conversation she had with Kylie Ladd.

Like a number of contemporary authors – including Kylie – Megan writes beautifully to what she calls ‘the human condition.’ The way we all are as people, in our every day. In the big and small of life, relationships and the events that connect and disconnect us to ourselves and others – as flawed, funny, fragile and sometimes triumphant human beings.

In answering Kylie’s elucidating questions, Megan spoke from her heart with eloquence and honesty. She held the audience captive as she took us into her world of writing and the parts of her life that brought her to penning this book. She is an author with humility and generosity. Real and honest – about her writing process and herself.

The evening was also about good food, good wine, great service, and stimulating conversation. The room abuzz with the energy and vibes of those who came for both a literary and culinary feast. We were not disappointed.
