Convey the emotional truth of your story

One of the paradoxes of writing is that the more specific it is, the more universal it is in its appeal. In this two-hour writing workshop with Dr Lee Kofman, you’ll learn how to pay attention to your senses, be specific in your descriptive prose without being tedious, and how to use specificity to convey the emotional truth of your story and move your readers.

This workshop is suitable for writers at all stages of their craft, whether starting out or working on a manuscript. It’s a deep dive into ways to make writing more expressive and evocative.

Dr Lee Kofman is the author of six books, including a book on writing, The Writer Laid Bare (Ventura Press, 2022), and memoirs Imperfect (Affirm Press, 2019) and The Dangerous Bride (Melbourne University Press, 2014). She is the co-editor of Rebellious Daughters (Ventura Press, 2016) and editor of Split (Ventura Press, 2019), anthologies of memoir by prominent Australian authors. Lee regularly speaks at literary events, judges literary awards, and is an experienced writing mentor and teacher of writing.
